Italian jam crostata

Alt="Italian jam crostata"

The history of crostata is mixed with myth, because of its ancient origins and the lack of reliable sources. Legend tells that the gods have given to the siren Parthenope, who lived in the Gulf of Naples, this cake, as a tribute to his wonderful way of singing.

La crostata, also known as tart, like most of Italian desserts is a dish of peasant origin. It was precisely at a peasant family that tart was tasted for the first time by a Marquis, who asked for hospitality since the wheel of his carriage had broken down on the way to Naples. The Marquis was so fascinated by this cake, that he asked for the recipe to present it at the Bourbon court. From here, crostata has become one of the most famous Italian desserts and known all over the world.
